Tough Decisions in Marriage with The Nowembabazi @7

To my Kibubu,

Today marks 7 incredible years of love, growth, and God’s faithfulness in our journey together. Through every high and low, we have seen His hand guiding us, strengthening us, and drawing us closer to each other. “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12

Loving you has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. You have been my joy in the good times and my strength in the difficult moments. These years have taught us patience, understanding, and the true meaning of commitment. My heart is still yours, just as it was from the beginning—only deeper, stronger, and fuller.

And after 7 years… you’re still stuck with me 😄 — clearly, you made a great decision! Thank you for loving me, supporting me, and choosing me every single day.

I thank God for you today and always, and I look forward to many more years of love, laughter, growth, and walking this beautiful journey together.

To our audience,

We started our journey when I was volunteering and earning about 150,000 UGX monthly. Funny enough, we still had enough faith to believe that everything was working out for our good.

Tough decisions had to be made as we began our journey together, and one of them was my wife resigning from work to take care of the family. Later along the way, we also decided to start a business so that we could bring in more income.

After many discussions, we agreed that my wife would not return to teaching because we compared the salary she would earn against the expenses and the uncertainty of comfort at home. Remember, we had just welcomed our firstborn, Shadrach Mugume.

Getting a maid had never crossed our minds, and the pressure at work was not worth risking the wellbeing of both mother and child. This was after nearly two months of health complications following childbirth.

Did we even have startup capital? No! Quite ironic. We shelved the idea for six months.

One evening, while chatting with my brother-in-law as we always did, I shared our plan of starting a business. He fully supported the idea and advised us on how to proceed. We borrowed 200,000 UGX, and we were ready to begin. Days later, anyone passing by would think we had stocked food for our own consumption.

She also started selling airtime for close to 5 months later, we felt it was wise to venture into Mobile Money business as well, but still, there was no capital until we took another step of faith and borrowed 300,000 UGX not even a third of the minimum capital required but we started anyway.

When the business began showing promise, I acquired a loan of 1,500,000 UGX from our village SACCO using my parents’ land as security.

Exactly one week after receiving the money, my wife was scammed and thieves took 1 million UGX from her. That was one of the biggest blows to our business. Like many would, we even wondered whether it was witchcraft. We lost morale, but by God’s grace, we faithfully serviced the loan until it was fully paid.

Alongside the business, I also picked up other errands, and my income gradually increased to about 300,000 UGX per month.

Even amidst all the challenges, we watched our business grow because God never left our side. A few years later, we strengthened the business further by venturing into retail and wholesale cow ghee sales.

One unforgettable night, while my wife had traveled to check on me in Bwindi, thieves broke into our house. To our shock, they destroyed nearly 60 kilograms of ghee by pouring it down and mixing it with maize flour. They even brought out our blankets and clothes and stamped all over them. News reached us the following morning, and we could not comprehend what had happened. Call it witchcraft or whatever you may.

But we never gave up because Jesus remained our refuge and hiding place. Heavy laden and desperate as we were, He shielded us up to this day.

At one point, I suggested that my wife should go back to school, but her response shocked me. "I have much peace here in my small business earning and taking care of my family, what much more do I need? She said. At this point we also received Asher Amanya.

Today, as we celebrate 7 years of walking this marriage journey together, we also celebrate a resilient business. It has grown beyond our expectations, and through it, we are able to support our home and meet many financial needs.

Indeed, God has been faithful through it all.

Giving up is never our option and shouldn't be yours either.
